Friday Foodie: Capri Italian Ristorante

Hi, friends. How is everyone? Make it through Christmas in one piece? I know I’ve been a bit lapse in my writing lately, but I take a little comfort from checking my blogging history as December always contains my lowest number of posts. I get busy with finals and then get distracted by my birthday and holidays and then whoops! It’s 2018!

I’m currently on a delightful Christmas break that is full of morning yoga, friend outings, and house organization. (Presents always give me motivation to donate the old and display the new.) I’ve also been using up some gift cards to keep up-to-date with the Indy food scene, even though restaurant news seems to be pretty stable this week. Since I usually try to visit all the hot, fresh places, I’ve realized that I sometimes neglect older Indy standbys: the “tried and true” food destinations that see repeat customers year after year without the constant threat of “making it” in an ever-changing culinary landscape. I’m thinking about starting a winter series of trying some “oldies, but goodies” and decided to start with Capri.

Capri Ristorante has been locally owned by an Italian family since 1951 when they came to the United States after pleasing cruise guests with delicious food on ship for over a decade. Located on Indy’s Northside (on your way to the Fashion Mall if going up Keystone Avenue), the restaurant boasts cozy wood furnishings, multiple fireplaces, private parking lot, 1940’s music, and delicious homemade pasta dishes. I really lucked out a couple weeks ago when I was invited to join a couple other Indianapolis Food Bloggers to taste and photograph every single thing on the menu. Did you catch that? Every.Single.Thing. Ahhh! I’m was so spoiled because it was SO good! And now I’m cold and hungry and really want more pasta.

Since I got to try everything, I was able to pick-out a couple favorites: Tagliatelle del Fattore (Fettuccine Pasta with Diced Chicken sautéed in Olive Oil, Garlic, Sun Dried Tomatoes, Fresh Asparagus and Cream Sauce), Eggplant Parmesan, and Tortelloni alla Papalina (Cheese-filled Tortellini sautéd in Olive Oil, Onions, Pancetta, Mushrooms and Cream). I also got to try luxurious treats that I rarely order, such as the Chocolate Martini and house-made Cannoli.

I was completely full for the rest of the day and even brought home boxes of leftovers for Husband. Now that my food has digested, I am definitely ready to go again. I’m so thankful to Capri for hosting me and my blogger friends and would love to tag along if you want to make a visit.
