Friday Foodie: Zaxby’s (and a giveaway!)

I’m counting down the last two weeks of the semester, so I’m spending quite a bit of time  finishing projects and grading papers and I’m spending very little time cooking dinner. Thankfully, my birthday is coming up soon, so I’m starting to get loads of restaurant coupons that I can use to coast through my current “no cooking” phase and I’ve been getting invited to quite a few blogging events that are keeping me well fed. One of my most recent blogging outings was to Zaxby’s, which apparently everyone else has heard of except for me.

Zaxby’s restaurants are very popular in the South, with a headquarters in Georgia, but they have only recently been popping up in Indiana. We now have FOUR Indianapolis-area restaurants full of all the famous chicken goodness that includes appetizers, wings, chicken fingers, salads, and sandwiches. I have now been to Zaxby’s twice, once with Husband and once with the Indy Blog Society, and have tried a full sampling of their menu. We have several fast casual chicken places in Indianapolis, but I think Zaxby’s really tries to set itself apart with their multitude of options. It’s nice to have a place where Husband can order a plate of bone-in chicken wings and I can order a freshly prepared salad with a grilled chicken breast. I also enjoy being able to enhance my meal through appetizers because sometimes I want to turn my chicken craving stop into date night with more food choices.

Each Zaxby’s location is individually franchised, so they all have their own different design and and specials, such as community days and kids’ night, but they all serve delicious chicken, along with creative sauces and sides like slaw and garlic toast. I enjoyed meeting one of the local owners during my most recent visit AND I got to try their new filet sandwiches. I am also already craving another round of the spicy fried mushrooms (I was totally spoiled during my visit and ate just about everything). Husband ate his leftover wings for breakfast, so you know they must be good. We were both excited to finally get to try this famous chicken destination. And good news for you!
