Friday Foodie: Savor Downtown Indy

Hi, friends,

I hope everyone is enjoying their beautiful weekend. We’re getting a little sun in Indianapolis today, which is a nice break from the cold, gray, and rain that we’ve seen the rest of the week. My weekend has been a flurry of productivity coupled with trying to sneak in some naps. Husband has been sick all week, so his coughing has been waking me up every.single.hour. I definitely need an early bedtime tonight to catch up on some rest before heading back to school craziness tomorrow!

BUT! I’m taking a break from all of this to share with you about Savor Downtown Indy, Indianapolis’ newest food event. I’ve mentioned Devour Downtown on the blog for the past several years (even though it usually ends up in disaster), but Savor Downtown is all new this year, run by a different hospitality agency. This food celebration starts TOMORROW (2/19) and goes until 3/4. During these two weeks, you can visit a variety of downtown restaurants and get special offers on some of Circle City’s best food destinations. Many restaurants are offering multiple-course $20, $30, and $40 menu options (full listing here). There’s no need to print any coupons as each restaurant will be prepared with the “Savor Downtown” special menu.

Potato and Leek Soup, Spoke & Steele

I enjoyed a little preview of all the goodness last Tuesday and checked out the $30 menu option at Spoke & Steele. I chowed down on braised beef and noodles, potato and leek soup, and “Death by Chocolate” pot de creme. DELICIOUS! Spoke & Steele is now hosting Indy-favorite chef, Greg Hardesty, who influenced the recently updated menu.

Now that I’ve crossed one new restaurant off my list, I’m going to use Savor Downtown as an excuse to try another hot spot next weekend. I hope you also get to check out the listings and visit a new eatery or an old favorite during the special event. If you’re not local to Indianapolis, what fun food events take place in your city?

Well, I’m off to finish some homework. Happy eating!

  1. This sounds like such a fun event, and convenient way to try many different eateries without breaking the bank. When my family and I eat out, we generally stick to less than a handful of restaurants that we trust to always serve satisfactory food. If we plan to spend money on dinner, it had better not come with a side of sub-par quality! Keeping to only a few restaurants has its pros and cons, one of the cons being that after awhile we bore of eating at the same places. Maybe our area should host a Savor Downtown, to expose guests to new food options!

  2. Our little town had a Taste of the Best venue once upon a time. It was buffet style in a convention center. Totally worth it!

  4. Hi! In all of this cold weather we are having (yes, I live in California and I have nothing to complain about) all I want is warm comfort food. I recently went to a huge farmer’s market in Davis, Ca and had a Naanwich- Naan bread stuff with veggies roasted in Indian spices. So good!
Best of luck with your studies!
