Friday Foodie: TeeJay’s Sweet Tooth

Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you are enjoying time with family and friends. I’m excited to share about TeeJay’s Sweet Tooth with you today because it was definitely one of those pleasant life surprises. Like I had no expectations for this ice-cream shop at the corner of 86th/Michigan when I walked in and I walked out SO IMPRESSED about this awesome addition to our city. If you are a foodie like me and follow all these fun food accounts on Instagram, you’ll quickly learn that sometimes it takes a little while for food trends to make their way to us in the Midwest. The donut sandwich is one of those trends: still catching on in Indianapolis. So new, in fact, that TeeJay’s Sweet Tooth is the ONLY place in Indianapolis for a donut or Fruity Pebbles ice-cream sandwich. I was honestly a little shocked when I heard this because even my smaller hometown of Fort Wayne has an ice-cream shop with donut ice-cream sandwich options, but not Indianapolis!

A donut ice-cream sandwich is one of those things that sounds like it will be so crazy sweet that you’ll only be able to take one bite and then you take that bite and realize that this flavor is the best thing you’ve ever tasted, so you just KEEP EATING IT! And then you have a crazy sugar high and are hyper for hours or are in desperate need of a nap, but it’s WORTH IT! At TeeJay’s, you get your choice of a donut, chocolate chip cookie, apple fritter, or Fruity Pebbles crispy to be the “bread” of the sandwich and then add your choice of two flavors of (locally sourced) ice-cream for the “filling” and finally top it all off with a crunchy topping. I ordered the donut sandwich with rainbow sprinkles on top ($5) and Husband ordered the Fruity Pebble sandwich with more Fruity Pebbles on top ($5). So, so good. I ended up getting full eating mine, but Husband had NO trouble finishing both of ours. These desserts are so crave-worthy and Instagram-worthy that you will want to try them for yourself. Of course, you can also get just “plain” ice-cream without all the fancy add-ons, but who wants that??

TeeJay’s is pretty new to town, so I want to make sure we give them a hardy welcome. It’s fun to try new food trends and welcome food creativity to our city. The dessert prices are super reasonable since fancy desserts in Indianapolis can sometimes run upwards of $10+ each. The interior is very clean and well-organized. Also, the owner is SO impressive! She works full time as a dental hygienist and runs the business AFTER WORK! Total girl boss and she was so friendly and helpful during my visit. She’s also from Fort Wayne, so we had a good chat about how we both ended up in Indianapolis.
