Napa inspiration has been everywhere: I found Peppermint Lemonade at Fresh Market to remind me of our delicious, but expensive picnic at Oakville Grocery, I broke down and bought a pair of those printed shorts everyone’s been wearing all summer that I now plan to keep on forever, and I have been putting peaches in everything!
Popcorn dropped in nitrogen, compressed watermelon salad with prosciutto, and warm, toasty orzo pasta with pesto. Yum, yum. I passed up the drink menu for chilled Mason jars filled with tangy iced tea and munched on skirt steak with garlic butter sauce.
Vacations mean more to me that just travel. They create a space for me to clear my mind, to reflect on my current choices, and make peace with my impending future. Vacations also typically mark an important transition time: Ireland after finishing graduate school, Tahiti after getting married, and San Francisco before more graduate school! I picked San Fran because it is more budget friendly than Peru (our second choice) and because I’ve had a life long fantasy of moving to California (doesn’t everyone?).
